IPAF Global Security Report 2021

IPAF's new global safety report is here! Although aerial work platforms are considered one of the safest ways to work at height, accidents do happen occasionally. The safety report analyzes the main causes of injuries and deaths associated with the use of height access technology. The values are based on the incidents reported from over 25 countries on the IPAF accident reporting portal.

In the 2016-2020 period analyzed, falls from the platform and electric shocks were the most common causes of death. Trapping, platform tipping over, collisions with other machines and hits from falling objects also resulted in some deaths. The report breaks down for each cause of the accident in which industries / occupational groups and with which machine categories they occurred most frequently.

Conclusion of the report:

▪ Good planning of work at height is essential! Many accidents could have been avoided if the use of aerial work platforms had been better planned.

▪ Every accident, even the smallest near miss, should be reported. By collecting and evaluating the data, safety measures such as training, protective equipment and information material to educate users can be adapted and optimized in order to avoid even more accidents in the future.
